CNN has obtained exclusive footage that reveals the dynamic moments that lead to the fatal shooting of a mother of four, Rekia Boyd, in 2012 in Chicago.
Boyd died after being repeatedly shot by Chicago police while she was in the company of her sister.
The year prior, the video was released by the police department, sparking outrage across the country.
In the CNN footage, Boyd’s sister and her four-year-old nephew can be seen standing nearby when a group of young people approach a gate. Suddenly one boy pulls out a BB gun and starts firing it at the gate as other kids begin to cheer.
The boy then raises the gun and shoots directly into Boyd’s hands as she struggles to keep her children safe.

A little boy with black dreadlocks pulls out a BB gun and starts firing at the gate. She then strikes the boy on the back with her car window as she gives chase.
Moments later she collapses in the street screaming for help and police officers immediately open fire on the unarmed woman.
Her family was in the street and then the incident was halted as officers attempted to render aid and take their wounded relative into custody.
The incident sparked outrage across the nation. At the time of Boyd’s death a recording of her attack was leaked to the media showing a shocked African-American woman screaming for help after she was struck in the head with a police projectile as she made her way to a nearby car dealership to buy a car.
Boyd, who was wearing headphones at the time of the attack, was killed as she tried to protect her children from what she believed was a dangerous man.
