Olympic short track speedskater Shani Davis says he didn’t abuse IRS, won’t blame racism for retirement

Hough is joined in the Olympic competition by siblings Julianne and Derek, with whom he has won 13 gold and two silver medals in the last 11 years. Hough is a member of the North Hollywood, Calif., team.

Olympic short track speedskater Shani Davis on Tuesday said he was “fortunate” to avoid being banned from the Olympics after announcing his retirement. The four-time medalist and 2010 gold medalist with Germany’s Jorrit Bergsma at the Games has also rejected invitations from international federation officials to send photos of himself and his team mates and provide banking statements. Davis became the first black man to win gold when he and Dan Jansen earned the 1,500-meter title on Feb. 23, 1984. Davis said he was racially profiled and subjected to racial slurs at an airport in Columbus, Ohio, and has complained of athletes from other countries using sponsorship money as an “unfair advantage” over him.

San Diego Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward was among six players cut by the Atlanta Falcons before the NFL team re-signed five others Monday. The team also released linebacker Marquis Flowers.

Offensive tackle Oday Aboushi, linebacker Tim Hightower, running back Tyler Gaffney, defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu and safety Damontae Kazee were re-signed, the team announced.

Green Bay Packers defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, who signed with the team in January, was arrested Feb. 2 in St. Charles, Mo., on suspicion of assault and resisting arrest after a traffic stop, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The quarterback’s car was clocked traveling 128 mph during a police pursuit, St. Louis County Police told the newspaper.

Wilkerson was not taken into custody. One of his lawyers said the two men allegedly got into an altercation, and Wilkerson was simply following his home team’s lead.

The Seahawks signed free-agent tight end Luke Willson to a four-year contract. A fifth-round pick in 2012, the former New Mexico offensive lineman has played in 50 games with the 49ers, Texans and Seahawks.
